Travel Blog – A Family Trip To Central Europe

HomeAway employee Yazer firmly believes that memories are the best travel souvenirs. So on a recent holiday to Central Europe, he decided to chronicle his travels in the form of an email to his son. Here are excerpts from Yazer’s endearing email to his 5-year-old son:

Dear Son,

You had a blast on our recent family holiday to Central Europe, although you may not remember much in the future. I have written down our memories for you to read and relive in the years to come.

Our first stop was the beautiful city of Prague. We were picked up from the Václav Havel Airport by Ms. Marketa- our extremely lovable HomeAway host. She drove us to our centrally located apartment in Holesovice.

Supermarket, cafés, restaurants and the modern collection of the national art gallery were all within walking distance, with the tram stop only a block away.

The apartment was clean, comfortable and had a fully equipped open kitchen, which we appreciated a lot. It was a perfect home away from home.

We loved our week in Prague. We visited castles, museums, attended a classical music concert, and watched the opera. You loved the St. Matthews Fair so much that we visited it twice. Over the weekend, we visited the country home of our hosts Marketa and David.

While we took in the lush green scenery along with homemade apple strudels and hot coffee, you enjoyed feeding biscuits to their dogs.

Our next destination was Budapest, and this time we stayed at a HomeAway apartment in the famed castle district. Kinga, our kind host, personally welcomed us and showed us around the 15th century apartment, complete with a cellar and an open courtyard.

While we most appreciated the rustic charm and the meticulous details to hospitality from fresh towels to wifi passwords, you absolutely adored Lola- the friendly resident tabby cat.

Our five days in Budapest was spent exploring the old city across the Danube River, taking long walks around the castle district and experiencing a public bath.

We especially loved the neighbouring park which had trees covered in pink blossoms.park-on-the-adjacent-lane-from-our-budapest-home-away-apartment

We had a truly memorable holiday with the best part being the quality time we spent as a family.
