In May, HomeAway, announced a one-of-a kind contest with a mega prize – an all-expenses paid trip to Paris with an overnight stay at the iconic Eiffel Tower. We asked, “What would you do if the Eiffel Tower was all yours for the night?” We received thousands of responses from all over the world!
Meanwhile, right across the other end of the world, Ayano, from Japan had a dream. As one of three triplet sisters, she had always wished to hold a joint wedding ceremony with her sisters Kanae and Hitomi. Although her sister Hitomi got married in 2014, and Ayano too had married her colleague last year, the dream still lingered on.
Ayano’s dream touched a chord with the judges and she along with three other families (from America, the UK and France), were selected from an astounding 150,000 entries from all over the world. The judges were touched by her generosity to do something special for her family and so decided to make her dream come true.
The reality of the prize was beyond their expectations. Located on the first floor of the Eiffel Tower, 57 feet above the ground, the 190㎡ wide room is usually used as a conference/party room with a rental fee of about 600,000 yen for 6 hours. However, this was converted into a temporary apartment for the winners.
When Ayano heard that the conference room was to be converted into an apartment, she had imagined that the apartment would be very simple. However, when she and her family arrived, they were astonished to see the room transformed into a swanky apartment based on the designs of famed French architect Benoit Leleu who had also designed the rooms in The Hilton, Paris. It was colourful and was fitted with beautiful furniture from a top Italian brand.
The ‘sisters wedding at the Eiffel’ being Ayano’s primary dream was not forgotten. HomeAway arranged for a professional make-up artist and the result was three stunning women looking gorgeous and lovely in their bridal finery. This was followed by a professional wedding photoshoot overlooking the eternal city of love.
Right from start to finish, HomeAway ensured that the winners enjoyed their once-in-a-lifetime experience. The ‘wedding dinner’ was prepared by a famed French chef of a top Parisian restaurant, and included traditional delicacies such beef filet steak, and a specially prepared Croquembouche Wedding Cake. The surprises didn’t end there. Just when the winners thought the day had ended, a complete orchestra came to the apartment and entertained the wedding party with their favourite melodies.
Ayano and her family were exhilarated with the whole experience. For Ayano, it was not just winning but her dream coming true in the most exciting way ever. However, that was not the end. There was a bonus surprise waiting for them. HomeAway also provided them with tickets for the EURO2016 finals and to Disneyland Paris. A wonderful end to a fantastic trip that will be etched in their memories for a lifetime.
